Makeup Monday - Edna Mode Palette

Ok, I totally admit I got caught up in the Edna Mode hype because I love the character so much and I picked up this Ciate London Edna Mode Eye and Face palette! I was so hopeful, I was so excited, the packaging is so cute (at first) and I thought I would be able to create so many fun looks with it. I'm going to give it to you straight, for me, this palette fell flat. This is not to say I didn't like the looks I created but the palette is limiting. The Ciate London site calls it an every day staple.... I disagree. Let's take a look at what I created and why I feel the way I do.

So the palette arrived with the color Yes completely shattered, no big deal I would just pack it back into the pan, it's not like that hasn't happened before. The problem is the next day the whole thing fell out of the pan onto my bathroom floor, leaving me a glittery mess to clean up at 4:30AM. This was also the color I like the most so I'm a little disappointed that I now have to scrape the edges for a look.

For the first look I used the orangey colors. They are smooth and blend nice but you have to pile them on to get them to be this vibrant. This is a really soft palette and though they are advertised as really pigmented I didn't find that to be true. I also used the Fight Win eyeline that you can barely see. So bottom line these blend beautifully but fall short in the pigment department for me and the eyeliner, a big flop.

My favorite part of this look is the shimmery shade Yes, which we know is a tragic tale. Again these colors blend nice they just don't have that vibrancy I was hoping for or that I expected from the description and super vibrant packaging. I went over these shades many many times and this is still as vibrant as the blue would go. I guess it was ok since I wore this look to the office and shouldn't have gone that bold anyway right? So maybe they were doing me a favor?

Those are the two looks I created because I feel this is a limiting palette. With only six eyeshadows that don't really all go well together this was it. The blush is the most pigmented thing in the palette but it isn't bad I used it for both looks. The packaging gets annoying when you are trying to get ready but you have to spin this dial around perfectly every time to get the section you want open. It's cute in theory but in the wee small hours of the morning when I get dressed for work it's the last thing I want to deal with. I don't foresee this being a go to palette and actually don't even see myself keeping it long term. I think it will be in the discard pile the next time I do a purge and at $39 that is disappointing.

Please keep in mind these are my opinions in how this palette worked for me, it was something I was really excited to get, I purchased it the morning it was released from the Ciate London site so it was a major bummer to not have it work out. Have you picked up this palette? Do you have a palette you wanted to love but just don't? I want to hear all about it!

Next week we will be talking about The Malibu Barbie palette by Colourpop so stay tuned!

I was going to pick up that palette but then I forgot to. LOL! The Orange You Glad palette I had to have, but it’s not my fave because I feel like it’s limiting. Also, before I toned it down I felt like I looked like I had an eye infection. LOL
